Title 1 - Parents Rights to Know

Title 1 - Parents Rights to Know

All schools within the Sunnyside Unified School District receive Federal Funds for Title I, Part A programs to run a schoolwide Title I Program. As a parent of a student in a Title I school, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers who instruct your child. Federal law allows you to ask for certain information about your child’s classroom teachers and requires the school to give you
this information in a timely manner. Specifically, you have the right to ask for the following information about each of your child’s classroom teachers:

  • Whether the teacher has met State qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction.
  • Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which State qualification or licensing criteria has been waived.
  • Whether the teacher has any advanced degrees and the field of discipline of the teacher’s certification or degree.
  • Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

You will be notified by the school if your student has been taught for four (4) or more consecutive weeks by a teacher(s) that is not “Title I Appropriately Certified.”

As a learning organization where everyone considers themselves a learner, our teachers take part in continued professional development activities and are evaluated each year to ensure teaching meets the highest possible standards.

Please support your child’s education by communicating with his/her teacher(s) on a regular basis. For more information on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), and the role of parents, please visit the Arizona Department of Education website at Arizona Department of Education.

Professional qualification inquiries may be requested by submitting a Title I Teacher Qualifications Request Form to Andrea Foster via:

mail ATTN: Andrea Foster 2238 E. Ginter Road Tucson, Az 85706.
