District Override

YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK

Your support is crucial in providing the resources our schools need to thrive. As stewards of your tax dollars, we are committed to transparency and will ensure you know exactly how these funds are being used. However, while this is a significant step, we still face ongoing challenges and will need continued support to meet the evolving needs of our students and schools. Thank you for standing with us in this important work!

After a 16-year hiatus, the Sunnyside Unified School District finally witnessed a successful override in November 2023. We extend our deepest gratitude to all the voters within the Sunnyside District who actively participated in the special election. Together, we can continue to strengthen our communities by strengthening our schools!

Because school finance can be complex, here is a quick summary of what voters approved and how dollars can be spent according to state law.

Proposition 498 – Maintenance & Operation (M&O) Budget Override
Funds from Maintenance & Override are used for running the schools and funding employee salaries and benefits, purchasing classroom supplies and providing transportation.

Proposition 499 – District Additional Assistance (DAA) Budget Override
Unrestricted Capital Override funds are used to build and equip schools, repair and upgrade existing buildings, purchase school buses and purchase technology.
