Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Food & Nutrition Department to ensure that all Sunnyside Unified School District students receive healthy and nutritious meals daily to ensure that all students achieve academic success and contribute positively to a diverse, changing, democratic society.

It is the Vision of the Food & Nutrition department to achieve the highest level of happiness and satisfaction with all students, parents, teachers, administrators, and department employees. This includes the delivery of our goods and services in a way that is healthy and fun for students, well-received by our parents, popular with our teachers, trusted by administrators, and sensitive to our employees.

Department Facts
We served over 3.8 million breakfast, lunch, A la Carte and adult lunches in 2016-2017. Every Sunnyside District school provides a Free and Reduced Meals Program for eligible students. All meals served in our schools meet USDA / ADE criteria for nutritious meals.

Each school also participates in the Roving Chef Program at least once per year. This program highlights hands-on nutrition education by providing cooking classes for students at each elementary and middle school across the district. To find out more about this program visit our Roving Chef page.

Sunnyside also participates in the federally funded Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, introducing students to new fruits and vegetables while providing a healthy snack. The school that were awarded in 2017-2018 are:

Submit your completed form or letter to USDA by: (1) mail: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights, 1400 Independence Avenue, SW, Washington, D.C. 20250-9410; (2) fax: (202) 690-7442; or (3) email: program.intake@usda.gov.
