Superintendent's Report: Septemeber 29th

The Septemeber 29th Governing Board meeting offered a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the many exciting things happening across Sunnyside Unified School District. From student achievements and staff accomplishments to innovative programs, community partnerships, and opportunities that are helping our students grow and thrive, the Superintendent’s Report highlighted the incredible work taking place throughout our schools. Together, these stories reflect the dedication of our students, staff, families, and community partners, and the many ways SUSD continues to create opportunities for every learner to be College, Career, and Community Ready.
9/11 STAIR CHALLENGE
On September 11, Sunnyside High School brought together students from across campus and the Sunnyside community to remember and honor the lives lost on 9/11.
Students from athletic teams, Student Council and academic classes joined together for the 9/11 Stair Challenge, challenging themselves physically while reflecting on the lives and sacrifices of those who were lost. Desert View High School’s AFJROTC program also participated, helping make the event a meaningful District-wide moment of remembrance.
The event was student-driven, with students wanting to create a meaningful way for their school and community to come together, honor the victims, and ensure their stories are never forgotten. A special thank you to Sunnyside High School, Mr. Coody and his EMS students for hosting this powerful event, and to all of the students and programs who came together to remember, reflect and honor.
ELVIRA RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY
Elvira Elementary is proud to celebrate its brand new cafeteria, renovated front office, and new teachers’ lounge!
These incredible improvements were made possible through the passing of bond and override funds to support the Sunnyside Unified School District. Thank you to everyone who voted to invest in our schools and create welcoming spaces where our students and staff can reach new heights.
SUNNYSIDE FOUNDATION GIVES WEEKS
We would like to thank the Sunnyside Foundation for hosting another successful Gives Week that brought students, staff, and families together to celebrate our community. In addition, we would like to thank all those who donated to the foundation to fund programming that directly benefits our students and teachers here in the district.

This weekend, we had an amazing turnout at the Community Resource Fair and Open House. We would like to thank Sierra K-8’s mariachi and folklorico students for sharing their wonderful talents with the crowd. A big thank you goes out to the various vendors and community partners for providing our families with important resources and information during the fair.
PUEBLO MECHANICAL DONATION
A huge thank you to Pueblo Mechanical for their generous monetary donation supporting student initiatives in Desert View High School’s Precision Manufacturing course!
Your investment provides opportunities for our students to learn, create, and build skills that can help prepare them for success beyond the classroom. We are incredibly grateful for community partners like Pueblo Mechanical who believe in the potential of our students and are committed to helping them thrive.
