The mission of the Sunnyside District Alumni Association, a chapter of the national Dollars for Scholars scholarship award organization, is to promote graduation, lifelong learning and pride in  the Sunnyside District. The Association raises funds for scholarships, and inducts honorees into the Alumni Association Hall of Fame.

Since 2005, the Alumni Association has awarded $464,000 to 392 graduates of Desert View High School, Sunnyside High School and S.T.A.R. Academic Center.

Dollar for Scholars on Katie Show

Katie Couric's national talk show featured a spotlight segment on Scholarship America Dollars for Scholars and the founder, Dr. Irving Fradkin. The full segment included a surprise parade of graduates who came out to thank Dr. Fradkin. WATCH THE VIDEO HERE.

The Sunnyside Alumni Association was named the 2011 National New Chapter of the Year by Dollars for Scholars/Scholarship America.

The Hall of Fame honors individuals or groups who have made notable contributions to the Sunnyside educational system, the community, and their chosen profession. Any person or group interested in nominating a candidate for the Hall of Fame may contact the Association at 940-1951.
