Sunnyside Welcomes Tucson Sugar Skulls for Love of Reading Week

Tucson, AZ. February 6, 2020 — The Sunnyside Unified School District (SUSD) kicks off Love of Reading Week on Monday, February 10, 2020, through Friday, February 14, 2020. Two Sunnyside schools will open their doors to Tucson’s professional indoor football team, the Tucson Sugar Skulls, this year.

Defensive Linebacker, Robert Metz, and Sugar Skulls Head Coach, Dixie Wooten, will be reading to 4th and 5th graders at two SUSD elementary schools this year. “We want to be involved throughout the community, but Sunnyside has a special place in my heart because I went to elementary school in the district at Elvira and Los Ranchitos,” said Team President, Jay Gonzales. “It’s a school district near where we do business every day so we feel like we can be part of the Sunnyside community.”

Members of the media are encouraged to notify SUSD Director of Public Information, Marisela Felix, if they wish to visit SUSD schools.

Robert Metz will be at Esperanza visiting 5th graders on February 11th at 1 pm
Esperanza Elementary 2353 E. Bantam Rd.

Dixie Wooten will be reading to 4th and 5th graders at Mission Manor on February 13th at 1 pm
600 W. Santa Rosa St.
