APRIL 26, 2018 / MODIFIED MAY 17, 2019 02:15 PM

It's that time of the year again!

Sunnyside offers an extensive benefits package for eligible employees that provides medical, dental, vision and life insurance coverage options based on your individual needs. With lots of options available, you and your family can save for medical costs during retirement, plan for the medical needs of your new family, or ensure you're ready for the unexpected.

ALL employees must re-enroll or enroll between May 1st-31st (for benefits to take effect September 1, 2019). Do not confuse these two dates!

BENEFIT ELECTIONS FROM 2018-19 WILL NOT ROLLOVER.

We are now on a 10 month plan year and our insurances will be effective September 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020 with the new plan year beginning July 1.

Ready to move forward?

Log-in to your iVisions portal http://visions.susd12.org/ess to review your options and make your selections for the next plan year (which takes effect September 1, 2019).

"WHAT'S THIS 10-MONTH PLAN YEAR ALL ABOUT?!"

Q: My communication says that 2019/2020 will be a 10-month plan year, what does that mean?

Our plan year for 2019/2020 will run from September 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020. Open enrollment for the 2020/2021 plan year will be in May 2020 and the 2020/2021 plan year will begin on July 1, 2020.

Q: Will I be covered in the summer?

As long as you enroll in May for the 2020/2021 plan year and return to work at the start of your contract for the 2020/2021 school year, you will not experience a lapse in coverage for your insurances.

Q: Why are we having a 10-month plan year?

We are changing our plan year from September 1 to July 1 in order for employees to have a plan year start date that is closer to our open enrollment (May). This will allow our employees to be able to make better choices because the plan year will begin 1 month after open enrollment instead of 3 months later.

Q: Since our plan year is shorter, will we have the same number of deductions from our paycheck?

No.

For the 2019/2020 benefit year only, we will have 18 deductions for your benefits - for the 2020/2021 benefit year we will return to 21 deductions.

"PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT WELLNESS DISCOUNTS. WHAT ARE THEY?"

Q: How do I know if I am a Wellness Participant?

There are a few ways to tell:

  • When you log onto your iVisions portal, you will see the lower premium for your medical insurances
  • You can log onto www.umr.com to view your wellness points (you must have earned 50 points by March 31, 2019 in order to be eligible for the premium credit)

Q: What does it mean to be a Wellness Participant?

You completed 50 points by participating in wellness activities by March 31, 2019 and you are now eligible for a $25.00 per pay period reduction in your medical insurance premiums.

Q: If I am not a Wellness Participant, how can I become a Participant?

All you need to do is earn 50 wellness points by March 31, 2020 to be eligible for the $25.00 per pay period reduction in your health insurance premiums for the 2020/2021 benefit year!

Unfortunately, it is too late to participate for the 2019/2020 benefit year but please participate in the program for the next benefit year and see the savings!

(Wellness Program details are outlined in your Employee Benefits Guide)

Q: I didn’t know about the wellness program - how did you communicate this?

We communicated the wellness program in many ways. Please see the information at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1okI9IPXDfVfmB-xGQa6IYIDKblUOfLSiPYM1k2LWFzk/edit?usp=sharing.

"I AM RETIRING."

Q: I am retiring at the end of this school year, do I still need to participate in open enrollment?

Yes.

If you are participating in…

  • Regular retirement and ESI: Make your elections for September 1, 2019 so that you are offered COBRA with the elections that you would like for the new plan year.
  • BERP: Make your elections for September 1, 2019 and the benefits office will send you an invoice for your portion of the premiums.
