Presidents' Day program at Rivera Elementary

In honor of Presidents' Day, Rivera Elementary School's third-grade classes will perform a Reader's Theater Play on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012 at 6 p.m. The play was written by Alexis Burrows, music specialist at Gallego Basic Elementary School. Alex Cardieri is the music specialist for Rivera.

Rivera's Juan Carbajal is winner of Esperanza Award

Juan Carbajal, LD resource teacher for Rosemarie Rivera Elementary School, is one of four teachers in Arizona to be honored in the 13th Annual Esperanza Latino Teacher Awards by Chicanos Por La Causa. He is the first teacher in Pima County to receive this award. He will be honored at a special event October 20, 2011 in Phoenix.

Rising Star Gallery featuring work by Los Ninos and Rivera students

Currently on exhibit in the Rising Star Gallery are works of art by student artists from Los Niños and Rosemarie Rivera elementary schools. Becky Shipe is the art teacher at Los Niños and Zoe Schreiber is the art teacher at Rivera. The Rising Star Gallery is in the SUSD Administration Building, 2238 E. Ginter Road.

Rivera teacher Leslie Maier a Remarkable Mom

Rivera kindergarten teacher Leslie Maier will be honored as a Remarkable Mom on Saturday, May 7 at Tu Nidito’s Remarkable Celebration at Loews Ventana Canyon. Leslie joined Moms on Meningitis and the National Meningitis Association, and worked with the Arizona State Health Department to establish the requirement that students entering sixth grade get the meningitis vaccine.  More »

Rivera students' create project to promote civility, peace and brotherhood

Student artists at Rivera Elementary have created a special project in honor of Black History Month. "Hands Around Rivera," which promotes civility, peace and brotherhood, will be on display throughout February. Rivera’s art teacher is Zoe Schreiber.

Rivera students receive books from the Pioneers and Rocky the Raccoon

On May 5, Rocky the Raccoon and the Pioneers - a charitable organization - delivered 72 books to students at Rivera Elementary School to encourage students to become readers for life.  More »

District elementary soccer tournament

Congratulations to Elvira Elementary on winning the SUSD Soccer Tournament, which was hosted by Mission Manor. Ocotillo took second and Rivera won third place. Mission Manor fourth-grade teacher Cathryn Molina organized and coordinated the tournament.

Three Rivera Classrooms Place at SARSEF

Three Rivera classroom science projects placed at the Southern Arizona Regional Science and Engineering Fair (SARSEF) held at the Tucson Convention Center on March 11. Mrs. Clauson's class placed second in the region for fourth grade. Mrs. Garner's and Mrs. Maier's classes placed third in the region for kindergarten. Congratulations to all our aspiring scientists! We're proud of you.

Rivera Class Raises over $1,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

Ms. Patti Gonzales' 5th-grade class conducted a penny drive from February 16th to March 10th for the benefit of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This community service project culminated in a final tally of $1,233.20 raised for this worthy organization. Congratulations go to Ms. Gonzales and all her students for the great success of their fundraiser!

Paola Mendivil Top Rivera Reader

Paola Mendivil, a student in Ms. Chavarria's 1st-grade class, was honored as the the top reader at Rivera in the Bookman's Reading Challenge for the month of February. Paola read an astonishing 132 stories during that time, rocketing past all other students from kindergarten through fifth grades. Congratulations, Paola!

Rivera Spelling Bee Team at District Spelling Bee
