What is the Arizona Tax Credit Program?
The Arizona Tax Credit Program allows you to receive a tax credit of up to $200 for single individuals (or head of household) or $400 for married couples filing a joint return ($200 each if married filing separately) for your donation to the school of your choice and the activity of your choice. Your donation will go directly to the school. DO IT SOON! You have to make your donation BY December 31 of this year to receive a credit on your 2013 taxes.
What is a tax credit?
A tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in the tax you owe. Only individuals, not corporations, are eligible for this credit. If the credit is more than the amount of taxes you owe, the credit can be carried forward for up to five years.
A tax credit will allow you to reduce the amount of your tax liability to the state (your state tax bill) or increase your refund from the state. The amount you donate will be the amount you may claim as a state tax credit.
For example, if you donate $50, your state tax credit will be $50. When you file your taxes in the spring your state tax bill will be $50 less, or if you are receiving a refund your refund will be $50 more. Either way, you are sending your tax dollars directly to the school of your choice (and not the state).
Check with your tax consultant to see if you could also be eligible for a deduction on your federal taxes to the Internal Revenue Service.
Do I have to include my social security number on the form?
No.
How does this program benefit our schools?
100% of the money you donate goes directly to the school of your choice, to help fund extracurricular activities.
What will the money be used for?
Every Arizona Tax Credit dollar will be used for the extracurricular activity of your choice. Donate to such activities as field trips to support classroom curriculum, athletic programs, music programs, after school clubs and student leadership training.
How much can I donate?
Arizona law enables taxpayers a tax credit contribution of up to $400 per calendar year if filing status is Married, filing Joint Return; $200 per calendar year if filing status is Single or Head of Household; and, $200 per calendar year if filing status is Married filing Separate Return.
How do I make a donation?
There's Two simple ways!
BY MAIL: Download a donation form. Fill it out and send it in with your donation, made payable to the school of your choice. You may hand-deliver your donation to any school or you may mail your donation, postmarked by December 31, to Sunnyside Unified School District, 2238 E. Ginter Road, Tucson, AZ 85706.
ONLINE: Use our secure web form to make a donation to the school of your choice through our 100% secure website.
Once I send in my donation, is there anything else I need to do?
Yes. When you file your taxes, you will need to include a special form for tax credit donations. When forms become available, after the first of the year, you will need to download Arizona Form 322. If you experience problems opening the PDF files, move your mouse over the link, right-click and select "Save target as."
What else do I need to know?
You do not need to have a child enrolled in one of the SUSD schools to be eligible for the tax credit. You do not have to be a Tucson resident to donate money. You may donate less than $200 (single) or $400 (jointly) and still be eligible to receive the tax credit in the amount of your donation.
IMPORTANT: Please make sure you have selected the correct school. All transactions are final and cannot be transferred to other schools once submitted. Please print the receipt for your records, no other receipt will be mailed to you.
