Sunnyside alum Robert Jaramillo an Obama Scholar

Sunnyside High alum Robert Jaramillo, Class of 2008, has been named an Obama Scholar, one of 12 selected from 2,000 applicants nationwide. He received his award in New York City last week. The award from the Hispanic Scholarship Foundation to support students in STEM fields and education was created after President Barack Obama donated $125,000 to the HSF from his Nobel Peace Prize award in 2009. Robert is a junior at the University of Arizona, majoring in elementary education. He is one of 12 award winners selected from 2,000 applicants. His father, Robert Jaramillo, teaches in Desert View’s AFJROTC program. The award is for $2,500 per year for two years.
