Project Astro at Drexel

September 27, 2010

Drexel Elementary School teacher Rosa Watson is participating in Project Astro, a national program sponsored by the National Optical Astronomy Observatory. She will work collaboratively with a partner astronomer to create lessons and community activities related to astronomy. Students in Ms. Watson’s fifth-grade class will use their netbook computers and will take part in an online survey to provide data to the national Dark Skies program on light pollution. The class will host a Star Party for the entire school at which astronomers from Kitt Peak and the University of Arizona will facilitate demonstrations with high-tech telescopes.

Ms. Watson learned about Project Astro from teachers Geniece Baer and Cithel Orozco of Liberty Elementary School, who have participated in the program for a few years.
