K-5 Ownership Indicators
As Project Graduation was launched, the importance of and need for ownership from the elementary schools was a major concern. In response, K-5 ownership indicators of good attendance, strong literacy skills, and maintaining academi progress at each grade level were identified to prepare students for success in high school and beyond.
Smart Goals
- The 2007-2008 retention for K-5 students will decrease 40% from 2007 retentions (196), to not exceed 118 retentions as measured by year-end retention data.
- By May 21, 2008 the average daily attendance rate for K-5 schools will be 95% as evidenced by Infinite Campus reports. The 2007 rate was 94.45%.
- By May 21, 2008, 20-30% of K-5 students from the At-Risk and Some-Risk categories will move to the Benchmark category (Low-Risk) as measured by the DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) reading assessment.
- By May 2009, 85% of students will be reading at grade level when they transition from fifth to sixth grade, and from eighth to ninth grade. Students who are not reading at grade level will be required to attend summer school, and enroll in sixth-grade or ninth-grade reading classes.
