Counseling Mission Statement Philosophy The purpose of education, in its broadest sense, is to provide opportunities and experiences for youth to develop to their optimum potential. The Sunnyside Unified School District Guidance and Counseling Program believes that each student is a unique individual who has a right to acceptance, self-development, self-fulfillment and self-direction. Each student has a responsibility for making decisions and for living with the consequences of these decisions. The counseling and guidance program in an integral part of the total school endeavor and seeks to improve the learning environment by involving student, parents, administrators, faculty, staff and community through specialized approaches that are consistent with district philosophy and community expectations. The counselors have a major role in helping all students become aware of educational and occupational opportunities; and to develop adequate and realistic concepts of themselves.
