Los Mezquites middle school
The 2012 Los Mezquites middle school boys race had the highest participation numbers in Los Mezquites history, with 278 runners from 22 schools. Seven Sunnyside District runners finished in the top 25:

Middle school cross country champs
Challenger Middle School’s boys and girls cross country both won first place at the Southern Valley League Cross Country Tournament. Lauffer girls cross country won second place. More »
Sunnyside senior invited to visit Vermont college
Sunnyside High senior Keenia Alejandra Shinagawa is one of 75 students invited to visit the Middlebury College campus in Vermont during its annual multicultural open house Oct. 21-23. The college provides meals, lodging and transportation.
Challenger Math Night
Math Night at Challenger Middle School Oct. 2 set a new record for participation, with 209 students and 72 tutors, plus 15 student helpers and 11 staff members. Thank you to all the tutors, school and district volunteers who helped to make Challenger’s first Math Night of the year a great success.
Cox Media spotlights tech innovation at Sunnyside High
Cox Media will broadcast a 90-second segment featuring the innovative use of technology in Kate Street’s class at Sunnyside High School. The segment will air on Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. on Cox Channel 7 and 1007 HD during half-time of the Desert Vista at Hamilton football game; it will replay Sunday, Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. More »
Katrina Herrera finalist for Teacher of the Year
Katrina Herrera, a special education math teacher at Sierra Middle School, has been named one of five finalists for the Arizona Teacher of the Year award from the Arizona Educational Foundation. The Teacher of the Year will be named in November. More »
Parent Technology Training
In the month of October, Technology Trainers will provide technology opportunities for parents at different school sites. The trainings will be during school hours in order to eliminate the need of daycare. All training will be focused on resources and software needed by the 1:1 program. More »
