The Digital Advantage

Through The Digital Advantage - Project Graduation's legacy program - the Sunnyside Unified School District is using laptops as an incentive to decrease dropouts and increase the district’s graduation rate. High school freshmen have the opportunity to earn a netbook when they achieve the 4 A's at the end of the first semester.

This year 486 freshmen from Desert View and Sunnyside high schools were awarded netbooks. The celebration was held in Centennial Hall at the University of Arizona on February 17, 2010. View the photos.

In the 2008-2009 school year, SUSD gave laptops to 505 ninth-grade students who achieved the Four A’s.

The 4 A's

  • Academics: 2.5 or higher grade point average
  • Attendance: 95% or better attendance rate – no more than four excused absences, no unexcused, and must attend on the first day of school
  • Activity: regular participation in a school-sponsored extracurricular activity
  • Attitude: no out-of-school suspensions
