Webmaster Responsibilities

Congratulations on being chosen as the webmaster for your school or department. You are now in charge of your school's internet presence and as Uncle Ben said to Spiderman, "with great power comes great responsibility."

Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA)
Each school is responsible for preserving the rights of privacy of students and parents and a folder should be designated for FERPA forms that have been filled out by parents who do not want their child's picture published in district documents. It is up to the site's webmaster to check this folder when posting student information to ensure that there are no FERPA forms filled out for the students whose picture you want to use.

Student Photos
When posting student pictures it is recommended that you use first names only and that students aren't specifically identified in photos, especially in the elementary and middle school levels. High school students on the other hand, especially those students in extracurricular activities, will typically want to be identified as this information may be used by college recruiters.  Regardless of the age level, webmasters need to be diligent and discriminating when posting information on the web to ensure the safety of our students.

Use of Technology Resources Agreement
As a technology user you should have signed a Use of Technology Resources in Instruction form. This form includes the guidelines for acceptable use and your personal responsibility. You must have one on file in order to utilize the district's web services.

DO NOT put the following on your school's web pages

  • students’ personal e-mail addresses
  • personal student web pages
  • students’ intellectual property, such as art work, poetry, essays, etc. without a release form signed by both parent and student
  • web pages used for commercial or personal gain
