Board President Gonzales named to All-Arizona Board
Sunnyside District Governing Board President Louie Gonzales is one of five board members in the state named to the All-Arizona School Board by the Arizona School Boards Association (ASBA). This is the highest honor given to individuals by ASBA. Mr. Gonzales received his award December 15 at the ASBA/Arizona School Administrators annual conference in Phoenix.
Eva Carrillo Dong recipient of Lifetime Achievement Award
Sunnyside Unified School District Governing Board member Eva Carrillo Dong has been named the recipient of the 2011 Benjamin Elijah Mays Lifetime Achievement Award from the National School Boards Association’s Council of Urban Boards of Education. She receives her award Oct. 8, 2011 at the CUBE national conference in New Orleans

The National Hispanic Caucus of School Board Members of the National School Boards Association presented Governing Board member Eva Carrillo Dong with the Abrazo Award in honor of her outstanding leadership, dedication and commitment to providing opportunities for Hispanic students.

Sunnyside District Governing Board receives highest state honor
The Sunnyside District Governing Board received the Lou Ella Kleinz Award of Excellence from the Arizona School Boards Association (ASBA) December 16, 2010 at the ASBA/Arizona School Administrators annual conference in Phoenix. The award honors the most outstanding educational leadership by a school board in the state of Arizona, and is the ASBA’s highest honor.
NALEO Education Board
Ms. Eva Carrillo Dong has been nominated in 2011 to sit on the Education Board of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO). NALEO is the nation’s leading nonprofit organization that facilitates the full participation of Latinos in the American political process, from citizenship to public service.
Governing Board member Eva Carrillo Dong nominated as Latina Leader in education
Governing Board member Eva Carrillo Dong was nominated by Congressman Raúl Grijalva to be recognized as a Latina Leader in education who has helped advance the community and has served as an inspiration to young people. Ms. Dong was nominated for her service and dedication to providing educational opportunities for students who have often faced hardships.
Eva Carrillo Dong selected to All-Arizona School Board
At the Arizona School Boards Association’s 51st annual conference, SUSD Governing Board President Eva Carrillo Dong was among five school board members named to the All-Arizona School Board. This is the highest honor the Arizona School Boards Association bestows on individual governing board members.
Hall of Fame inductee
Eva Carrillo Dong was inducted into the inaugural Hall of Fame in 2004 by the Sunnyside School District Alumni Association for her advocacy of education.
