The Digital Advantage

Through The Digital Advantage - Project Graduation's legacy program - the Sunnyside Unified School District is using laptops as an incentive to decrease dropouts and increase the district’s graduation rate. High school freshmen have the opportunity to earn a netbook when they achieve the 4 A's at the end of the first semester.

This year 329 freshmen will be awarded netbooks, 66 upperclassmen will receive iPads and 174 9th graders will receive cases. The celebration will be held in Centennial Hall at the University of Arizona on March 8 at 6:30 p.m.

The 4 A's

  • Academics: 2.5 or higher grade point average
  • Attendance: 95% or better attendance rate – no more than four excused absences, no unexcused, and must attend on the first day of school
  • Activity: regular participation in a school-sponsored extracurricular activity
  • Attitude: no out-of-school suspensions
