AmeriCorps opportunities for grads

Please see attached flyer for information on the opportunity for graduating seniors to join AmeriCorps and serve at the Arts for All preschool or summer arts camp. AmeriCorps members work 45-50 hours per week, receive a living allowance of $5,900 and upon completion are eligible for an education award of $2,775.

Mujeres Writing Conference

The Sowing the Seeds writers’ group is presenting a Mujeres Writing Conference, “Remembrance: Writing Memoir,” on Saturday, May 26. See attached flyer.

Grand Canyon U weekend classes and STEM grants

Grand Canyon University has launched a new Partners in Learning, Leading & Serving Mini-Grant Program for projects in science, technology, engineering and/or math. Awards range from $500 to $5,000. The deadline to submit proposals is June 13, 2012. See attached flyer and application.

Grand Canyon University is also offering weekend classes in Tucson. See attached information.

The University of Arizona Medical Center Sports Medicine Physician Offices will be offering free sports physicals for high school students. No appointment necessary.

Imagine Greater Tucson (IGT) is looking for art created by students to feature in its materials. The art should highlight the best parts about living in Southern Arizona, in painting, drawing, collage, video – whatever the artist chooses. Prompts:

Summer art classes

The Drawing Studio, downtown, is offering summer classes in many visual arts areas for youth between the ages of 9 and 18. Scholarships and internships are available. Financial Fitness Fair - Zumba classes

Saturday, April 21, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Doolen Middle School, 2400 N. Country Club. The Financial Fitness Fair will include free financial workshops, screening and enrollment for AHCCS health care and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), information on qualifying for free home repair, theft identify prevention tips and free credit reports.  More »
