Blueprint for Student Achievement

Budget

In this time of budgeting crises at the state level, the district must become more efficient in the budgeting process. Staffing and sectioning, textbook management, budget carryover, and the use of Capital Outlay Revenue funds are a few of the areas which must be analyzed for maximum efficiency and effectiveness. The budgeting process must be built on sound planning and management among administrators with accountability from all departments, sites and central administration.

Smart Goals
  • SUSD will achieve between $1.5 and $1.8 million in M&O savings for the 2008-2009 school year through enrollment-based certificated staffing reductions and the redistribution of current M&O staffing expenditures to come from other funding sources.
  • SUSD has a goal of having $1.2 million in budget balance carry forward by the close of the 2007-08 school year. In 2008-09, the goal will be to increase the budget balance carry forward to $1.5 million.
  • Achieve a stabilized pattern of carryover funds to reach 3% over a four-year period, in order to have a consistent carryover amount for contingencies.
  • Redirect funds back to the Unrestricted Capital fund from M & O over the next eight years, to ensure that Sunnyside’s Capital Outlay Revenue Limit (CORL) is being used to support the district’s capital needs.
