Book-signing for Apollo’s Mark Zepezauer
Apollo Middle School art teacher Mark Zepezauer will discuss and sign copies of “The CIA’s Greatest Hits” on Friday, May 25 at 7 p.m. at Revolutionary Grounds on Fourth Avenue. At the request of new publisher Soft Skull Press, author/cartoonist Zepezauer has added six new chapters and cartoons to his 1994 book, which has sold more than 38,000 copies.
MESA Day state competition results

Your vote can help Apollo renovate kitchen for community classes
To expand the health and wellness resources of the Apollo Community School Wellness Center, Apollo Middle School is working with the Grow 2B Fit Foundation and community members to renovate the school's home-economics kitchen so it can be used to teach students healthy eating habits and to serve as a site for community cooking classes and nutrition education. Apollo registration for 2011-2012
Apollo Middle School will have registration everyday from 9:00 am - noon and 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm. We will be closed on Friday, July 15.
Apollo SUN students in ASU summer program
Apollo Middle School SUN students Jesus Ramos and Victoria Hernandez were chosen by Arizona State University to participate in the Barrett Summer Scholars Program. They are representing the Sunnyside District among just 100 students selected. Their SUN teacher is Kristen Weddle.

Apollo SUN students (gifted and talented program) Jesus Ramos, Victoria Hernandez and Melanie Guzman were three of 100 students statewide chosen by Arizona State University to participate in the Barrett Summer Scholars Program. Apollo’s SUN teacher is Kristen Weddle.
Apollo JAG students volunteer at Pima County Special Olympics
Several Apollo Middle School Jobs for Arizona’s Graduates (JAG) students volunteered at the Pima County Special Olympics held at Sunnyside High. Students were responsible for escorting athletes to events and award ceremonies.
Apollo Special Olympics basketball team are state champs
The Apollo Middle School Special Olympics basketball team has won the state championship for the fourth consecutive year. Their coach is Kathy Killen.
Apollo teacher named Chair of APA
Apollo teacher Dr. Julia Ramos-Grenier was named Chair of the Professional Practice & Standards Committee for the American Psychological Association (APA) in Washington D.C.

Venezuelan harp and singing artists perform for Apollo students
Venezuelan harp and singing artists performed a concert at Apollo Middle School for 250 students Sept. 29. The students were treated to classical harp accompanied by operatic type singing as well as traditional folk harp with regional singing. More »
Apollo Middle School student wins 1st place in UA Hispanic Heritage Poster Contest
José Roman of Apollo Middle School is the first place winner in the grade 6-8 category in the University of Arizona's Hispanic Heritage Poster Contest for this year. José will receive six tickets to the October 9 UA football game against Oregon State where he will be recognized during half-time. His art teacher is Marshall Colley.
SUSD counselors respond to crisis

Apollo teacher to present at AETA conference
Apollo Middle School teacher Norah Booth will present at the 2010 Arizona English Teachers Association annual conference at 11:25 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25 at ASU Polytechnic in Mesa, Arizona. More »
Apollo students win summer scholarships
Three Apollo Middle School band members - Brianna Brown, Rudy Cecena and Chris Calderon - were awarded scholarships to Northern Arizona University’s Curry Summer Music Camp in Flagstaff. The scholarships were awarded for participation in advanced band and district honor band, and for outstanding musicianship and leadership in all musical and academic endeavors. More »
Grant for Mission Manor & Apollo
Mission Manor and Apollo have been awarded an $11,000 grant from the Literacy for Life Coalition: Literacy Zone Partnership Project Funds to fund “Stories of the Zone,” a multi-generational, multi-modal celebration of literacy in the Sunnyside community.
Apollo raises money for bullet proof vests
Apollo Middle School Student Council raised funds to purchase two top-of-the-line bulletproof vests for Tucson Police Department officers. A third vest is being donated by Diamondback Police Supply owner Doug Mackinlay. More »
Apollo Special Olympics Basketball Team wins gold
The Apollo Middle School Special Olympics basketball team won gold in their division at the state competition. The team’s head coach is Kathy Killen, assisted by Maria Delahanty and Teresa Lugo.
